Van Charles Shipp, 59, of Commerce, Texas, passed away on Thursday, January 26, 2017 at his home in Commerce. He was born on May 20, 1957 in Commerce, the son of Bobby Joe Shipp and Theresa June Sparkman. Visitation will take place on Sunday, January 29, 2017 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Commerce Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 30, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Commerce with Reverend Kris Myers and Richard Frank officiating. Interment will follow at Rosemound Cemetery.
Growing up in Cooper, Texas, Van attended Cooper High School, where he was involved in the FFA. He attended East Texas State University for three years. Van was self-employed with a trailer building business. He spent some time working as a dairyman and as a welder. In his free time, he was an avid fisherman. Above all else, he enjoyed spending time with his family in various activities.
Van is survived by his wife, Rhonda Shipp; his children, Chase Shipp and wife, Megan, Chris Ehrlish and wife, Brittany and Morgan Ehrlish; grandchildren, Mason Shipp, Tate Ehrlish and Hayden Ehrlish; his sister, Robbie Horton and husband, Stanley; a brother-in-law, Dennis Dryden; a niece, Jessica Horton and a nephew, Jarrid Horton.
Van was preceded in death by his parents, Bobby Joe and Theresa Shipp.
