Uvone Reid, 77, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2023, at 5:40 in the morning. She was born October 2, 1945, at home in Wilburton, Oklahoma, to Loyd and Lena Reid. Uvone was the middle child of nine, with six sisters and two brothers. She was afflicted with a medical mishap at the age of eleven months, which left her 75% paralyzed. She could not walk or talk. Her vocal cords were paralyzed and her eyes were crossed. After several surgeries, her eyes were corrected. Uvone let her fingers do her talking and she got her point across just fine. She attended school and resided at Paul Valley State School from the age of 11 to 18. She then lived at various nursing homes in Wilburton, Oklahoma until 2008. Her sister, Carol, and her husband, George, drove to Oklahoma fifteen years ago, the day of George’s retirement, and moved Uvone to Oak Manor Nursing Home in Commerce. It was then that she became a Texan!
Uvone is survived by her brother, Duane Reid, and wife, Cheryl, of Waddell, Arizona, sister, Linda Lister, and husband, Robert, of Richmond, Texas, sister, Carol Ann Wetherby, and husband, George, of Cumby, Texas, sister, Tricia Jones, and husband, Dennis, of Hooks, Texas, sister-in-law, Mary Reid, of Elkton, Oregon, and many, many nieces and nephews.
Preceding Uvone in death is her father, Henry Loyd Reid, and wife, Ester, from Enterprise, Oklahoma, her mother, Lena Emily Holcomb, and husband, Braden, from Heavenor, Oklahoma, her sister, Hazel Lee Calvert, and husband, Royce Dale Calvert, from Enterprise, Oklahoma, her brother, Richard Loyd Reid, of Elkton, Oregon, her sister, Barbara White, and husband, Richard, of Talahina, Oklahoma, and her sister, Ilena Sutt, of Hooks, Texas.
What Uvone’s friends and family remember most about her is her loving laugh and her beautiful smile. Following cremation, a memorial service will take place at Oak Manor Nursing Home in Commerce on Thursday, May 4, 2023, at 1:00 p.m.. She will be buried in Brooken Cemetery in Enterprise, Oklahoma on Saturday, May 20, 2023.
