Ursula Loewenthal

Ursula Loewenthal passed away on August 9th, 2012 in New Jersey following a fierce battle with lymphoma.





Ursula was born to Erna and Adolf in April, 1928, Oppeln, Germany, inside Upper Silesia.  She fled Nazi Germany in 1938 to begin a new life in Angola and then Namibia, Africa.  She accompanied her parents to America in 1948.  Upon docking in New Orleans, Louisiana, she met the late Ralph Loewenthal, with whom she shared a loving 49 years of marriage. They proceeded to start a family of three children, Jean Shabot, the late John Loewenthal, and Kathy Goldenberg. They moved to Dallas, Texas, where Ralph worked for Arlington University and Ursula worked for Texas Instruments. In 1965, Ralph and Ursula moved to Commerce whereby Ursula attained her undergraduate degree at SMU and graduate degree at East Texas State University. Ursula taught foreign languages at Paris Junior College from 1971-2007.


She was the grandmother of Joshua Shabot, Jennifer Goldenberg, Jason Goldenberg and Valentina Shabot.


A memorial service for Ursula will be held Sunday, August 19, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at Commerce Funeral Home Chapel, 1505 Washington St. Commerce, Texas.     A graveside service will be held prior to the memorial, at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Veterans Cemetery beside her loving husband Ralph Loewenthal at 3:00 p.m. Friday, August 17, 2012.  Family and friends are welcome to attend.
