Thomas Fred Scroggins, born May 10, 1935, passed on to his heavenly reward on October 23 surrounded by his family.   He was a faithful, devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

He is survived by his lovely bride, Peggy, of 61 years; son Togy Scroggins of Atoka, Oklahoma, and daughter Neva Barnett and her husband Jesse of Lewisville; grandson (and Tom’s pride and joy) Terry Scroggins and his wife Sabrina of Lehigh, Oklahoma and their son, Jet.  Tom is preceded in death by his parents, Melton and Mary Scroggins and siblings Billy Sid Stevens, John Glen Scroggins, and Dorothy Binder.

Tom was born in Mt. Calm, Texas.  He graduated from Ralls High School and was awarded a full ride scholarship in football to any southwest conference school.  Tom served his country in the US army, farmed and ranched, and finally retired from Safeway.  Tom and Peggy moved to Commerce in 1967.

Tom never met a stranger and always had a sweet smile and huge handshake.   Of course, if he really loved you, you were greeted with a big hug and a “hi double ugly” to the boys.  He was generous, with a sweet and compassionate heart for everyone.  Tom loved football and Louis L'Amour books.   A favorite quote was, "Love can be a thing that endures, a rich deep current flowing unending through the years.”   Tom and Peggy also received great joy from traveling with life-long friends, especially if it involved a cruise.

Tom is a deacon of England Grove Baptist Church, a Master Mason and a 32nd degree Scottish Rite member for over 50 years.

A celebration of Tom’s life and Homegoing to JESUS will be held on Wednesday, October 25 at 10 am at the Commerce Funeral Home in Commerce, Texas.

Pallbearers will be James Hawkins, Jerry Hammock, Alvis Alderman, Willie Romans, David Coffman, Jesse Barnett.

In lieu of flowers please donate to the Texas Baptist Men or the Shriner’s Hospital for Crippled Children.

“We carry you with us each day and see you in our lives.  We will love you always and will meet you in Heaven’s eternal paradise, where we will never be parted again.  We are so thankful and blessed that God shared you with us.  May you grace heaven as you did on earth.”
