Rosenda ‘Rose’ ‘Chenda’ Perez Ohsiek, 84, was born September 5th, 1936 in Meoqui Chihuahua, Mexico. She passed away peacefully in her home in Commerce, TX on May 4th, 2021. ‘Chenda’ came to the U.S. as a young teenager, attending Lydia Patterson Institute in El Paso. She began her career in retail and thoroughly enjoyed her job as a bridal consultant in Dallas, Texas.
Rose met her husband Fred Ohsiek in El Paso, Texas (at the Green Frog) and they married in 1959. They moved to Germany a few years later. They enjoyed 52 years traveling the U.S. and the world with their children. Their travels included almost every state in the U.S., most of Europe, and Egypt.
Rose loved cooking, shopping, making margaritas, and listening to Elvis songs; but she especially loved her family.
She was fluent in Spanish, English, and German, and sometimes used all three in the same sentence. One of her favorite sayings was ‘Mi casa es su casa’ (my house is your house). She was a gracious host and loved socializing and entertaining.
But most of all – she was the best mom! Her kids were her pride and joy, and she would do anything for them. She was there when they needed her.
Rose is survived by two daughters, Debby Heitholt (husband Jim), Barbara Walsted (husband Larry), and one son, Fred Ohsiek (wife Judy). Rose had eight grandchildren: Jason Schmidlen, Nikki Schmidlen Clay (husband Aaron), Dustin Walsted (wife Brittany), Forrest Walsted (wife Brenna), Kory Green (wife Erin), Kaylee Ohsiek, Kara Ohsiek Haworth (husband Cody), and Kasen Ohsiek. Rose had eight great-grandchildren: Makenzie, Makayla, Logan, Sloane, Eiley Rose, Jeremiah, Baker, and Rowen. Rose is also survived by one sister, Lydia Mueller, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Fred, her mother Refugio ‘Cuca’, her father Tomas, and siblings Rodolfo, Enrique, Roberto, Petra, Marguerita, and Esperanza.
Many thanks to Alinea Family Hospice Care (Jamie and Paula) and caregivers Francis and Miranda for their support and love. Many thanks to Bill Heitholt for listening to Elvis with us while enjoying a glass of wine. A memorial service will be held in October, date to be announced later.
