Bob Shannon, a renowned prankster, stepfather, brother, uncle and friend, passed away on April 4, 2023, the date of his 73rd birthday. Bob was a resident of River Oaks Memory Care in Coppell, Texas at the time of his death, receiving excellent care during this past year. The family is grateful to River Oaks and Freedom Hospice for all the loving care they provided.
Born Robert McClurg Shannon, Jr. in Alexandria, Louisiana, he would soon move to Texas with the family, residing in Gordon, Garland, Arlington, and finally Corpus Christi where he graduated from Tuloso-Midway High School in 1968. Following graduation, he enrolled at Texas A&M University, where he was a proud member of the Class of ’72, Company G-1 “Ramblin’ G Rogues”. Bob graduated in 1972 with a degree in Building Construction and was also a Distinguished Military Graduate. Immediately following graduation, Bob was commissioned into the U.S. Army as a 2nd Lieutenant and served several years in the Quartermaster Corp before being discharged. He served another six years in reserve status where he attained the final rank of Captain. After completion of his initial military commitment, Bob went to work for the Henry C. Beck Company (now The Beck Group) and worked in Texas and California before his retirement. He loved his career at Beck and all the locals, new friends and colleagues he met along the way. Many of those who crossed his path were privileged to experience his pranks and jokes. To know Bob was to know laughter and life!
Bob was preceded in death by his father Robert McClurg Shannon, Sr., mother Betty Jo Biggers Shannon, sister Sharon Elizabeth Shannon, and is survived by his brother James Alvin Patrick Shannon (Robin) of Irving, Texas and his stepdaughter Christina Luce Furginson (Ryan) of Meridian, Idaho. He is also survived by his nephew Davin Jeffrey Toruta (Carrie), his nieces Erin Elizabeth Hutton (Ryan), Allison Senter (Chad) and Karen Portillo, and his great-nephews Kyle (Kim), Cade, Rafe, Elliot, and Kyle Patrick, and great-niece Katie. His grandsons Ryder and Austin were also a big part of his life. Bob loved and enjoyed a very special relationship with his son from another father, Chris Anthony! Bob loved family and he greatly loved each of you!
A private graveside service will be held at 1:30 pm on April 12th at Rosemound Cemetery in Commerce, Texas. A Celebration of Life service will be conducted on May 9th at 1:00 pm in the Chapel at St. Andrew Methodist Church, 5801 W. Plano, Parkway, Plano, Texas.
