Raymond (Ray) Jacobson, Jr.

December 7, 1947 — July 2, 2020

Commerce

On July 2, 2020, Raymond Earl Jacobson, Jr., known to family and friends as Jake or Ray, passed away peacefully in Greenville, Texas, following a brief, but hard-fought bout with esophageal cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family. A memorial service to honor him will be held at noon on Tuesday, October 20, at the Chandler Memorial Cemetery Pavilion, 620 Old Tyler Road, Chandler, Texas 75758.

Ray was born December 7, 1947, in Tyler, Texas, to Raymond Earl Jacobson, Sr. and Rose Evelyn Ellis Jacobson. He was a 1966 graduate of John Tyler High School in Tyler and received his Bachelor of Administration degree from the University of North Texas in December of 1973.

In the early 1970’s Ray worked at American Wood in Commerce, Texas, but the majority of his career was spent in the plumbing industry. He was a store manager and later a partner in Easter & Sons Plumbing Supply Company, primarily in McKinney, Texas.

Ray met the love of his life, Cindy Jennings, when they were students at UNT in Denton, and they wed on May 30, 1970, and celebrated fifty years of marriage this year. They also had three amazing children together-Amy, Wade and Katy. Ray was a hard-working, devoted husband and doting father who gladly picked up additional jobs so his family could have the “extras” he wanted to give them.

He was a one-of-a-kind guy with a great sense of humor, strong love of music, especially Pink Floyd, and a unique way of viewing and living life. Ray definitely did things “his” way. He was also notorious for assigning amusing nicknames to people and things he cared about, such as “the Scatterbrain of Scatterbranch.”

Ray is survived by his wife Cindy, daughter Amy Hill and husband Jerome, son Wade Jacobson and wife Victoria and daughter Katy Sarber and husband Brian; grandchildren Jordan and Avery Hill, Bennett and Raylee Sarber and Axton and Leddi Jacobson; siblings Kathy Tucker, Steve Jacobson and Karen Johnston, as well as a beloved aunt, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by both parents.
