Oliver Clark Mulkey, Iii

Oliver Clark Mulkey III, of Plano died early Wednesday morning, January 3, 2022, at his home in Plano. He was born March 22, 1937, in Nashville,TN,  to Oliver Clark Mulkey Jr. and Lee Elizabeth Taylor Mulkey. He graduated from Denison High School in 1955. He attended Texas A & M and graduated with a BS in Animal Husbandry and a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in 1962. He married Patricia Anne Patton of Commerce, Texas, on June 15, 1963. He practiced veterinary medicine in Denison until 1968 when he accepted a clinic teaching position at the University of Georgia Veterinary School. In 1972 he opened his veterinary practice in Plano where he specialized in small animal medicine until his retirement. Dr. Mulkey served as treasurer of the Emergency Animal Clinic, a consortium of Plano veterinarians, for many years. He belonged to Rotary and was an active member of the Eleventh-Hour Sunday School Class at First United Methodist Church in Plano.

In 1990, Dr. Mulkey was introduced to fly fishing, which became his favorite hobby.  He spent many days of his vacations fly fishing in the beautiful mountain streams of Colorado.  When he was home, he learned to tie flies and read extensively about fishing and history.

He was preceded in death by his brother Steve Mulkey, and his son, Curtis Christian Mulkey.  He is survived by wife Patricia and son Jonathan Mulkey, both of Plano: niece Stephanie Stange and husband David of Howe; brother-in-law, James Patton and wife, Susan, of Commerce; nephew, William Ray Patton, and niece Marie Patton Karnes, both of Commerce.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 7, 2022, at First United Methodist Church, 3160 East Spring Creek Parkway, Plano, Texas, 75074. A graveside service will be scheduled in Commerce, Texas at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the music fund or to the Permanent Endowment Fund at First United Methodist Church, Plano, TX.

Clark will be laid to rest in Rosemound Cemetery on Friday, January 14, 2022 at 1:00 pm.
