Michael R. Brent “Ronnie”, 78, of Campbell, passed away after a brief illness on Thursday, January 14, 2021 in Greenville. He was born on August 3, 1942 in Bonham, Texas, the son of Thomas Pascal Brent and Frances Louise Self Brent. The family will receive friends at a visitation to take place on Monday, January 18, 2021 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Commerce Funeral Home. A graveside service will take place on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Shiloh Cemetery in Klondike, Texas with Bill Newport officiating.
Following high school, Ronnie attended East Texas State University, earning a BS degree in Accounting. He enlisted in the United States Army Security Agency, where he earned the rank of E5 Sergeant. While in the Army, he served a tour in Viet Nam. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 81, where he served as Junior Vice Commander. He was also a member of the American Legion, Post 1, in Commerce. On March 26, 1966, Ronnie married the love of his life, Deedra (Deedie) Dodson in Commerce Texas. He and his family were members of the Cross Trails Cowboy Church. Ronnie worked at Raytheon E Systems, retiring in 1997 after 30 years of service with Serve air. Above all else, Ronnie dedicated his life to serving others and being the best Poppy he could be.
Ronnie is survived by his wife, Deedie; his son, Tracey Brent and his wife, Tammy of Campbell; his granddaughters, Jackie Brent of Overton, Texas, and Tracey DeAnn Brent of Campbell; two brothers, Pat Brent and his wife, Betty and Dava Brent and his wife, Theresa, all of Bonham along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Pascal, and Frances Brent.
Serving as pallbearers for Ronnie are John Weaver, Rodney Seglier, Mike Flater, Larry Wilcox, Brian Weber, and Buddy Gregg.
Serving as honorary pallbearers are the American Legion, Post 1, of Commerce and the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 81, of Greenville.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to honor Ronnie to the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 81 in Greenville or the American Legion Post 1 in Commerce.
