It is with great sadness that the family of Linda Roosevelt, 82, announces her passing on July 22, 2023 at Hunt Regional Hospital. Commerce Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. A memorial service to celebrate Linda's life is scheduled for August 19, 2023 at 2:00 PM at the Greenville Club Lake Clubhouse, 4466 Club House Road, Greenville, TX 75402.
Linda was born on June 16, 1941 in Wabasha, Minnesota to Robert and Verna Hurtig. She graduated from Wabasha High School in 1959 and attended Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota, graduating in 1963. Linda continued her education and completed a master’s degree in Administration in 1977 from the University of Montevallo in Alabama and a second master’s degree in Elementary Education in 1979 from East Texas State University.
Linda was passionate about art, education and ice hockey. She taught art in public schools in multiple states for over 40 years. She was active in many organizations during her career but was most proud of her involvement with the Texas State Teachers Association in which she served as an officer and even made a trip to the Capital in Austin to advocate for better teacher pay and benefits. Linda also loved to share that she had coached girls ice hockey for Central Junior High School and led the team to a 3rd place finish in the Minnesota State Tournament in 1975.
Linda was married to Paul Roosevelt for 21 wonderful years. They traveled extensively, enjoyed reading, bridge and their blended family of children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Linda loved to stay busy and remained active in several bridge groups and her book club. She recently celebrated her 82nd birthday with a special luncheon and bridge party at Webb Hill Country Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Paul, sister Wanda Gilbertsen, and daughter Sonja Pedersen. Linda was survived by Robin Alexander (George), Nancy Stallings (Brad), Jack Roosevelt (Teresa), Rick Pedersen, grandchildren- Chase Pedersen (Joe), Kolt Pedersen (Casey), Dylan Pedersen (Devin), Abigail Duncan, Katherine Duncan, George Alexander Jr., Nick Stallings (Anna), Alex Stallings (Katie), great grandchildren - Kamden Pedersen, Avalie Pedersen, Jayce Pedersen, and nephews Robert Gilbertsen (Roxanne) and Jack Gilbertsen.
All who knew Linda also know how special her dogs Button and Girlie were to her. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at the Commerce Veterinary Clinic for their extra care in helping with her these pets through the years.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the Commerce Public Library or your charity of choice.
