Kathleen Anita Capehart passed away peacefully Saturday, October 5th at Tender Care Colonial Lodge after a brief, but tumultuous, battle with cancer. She was 76 years old.
Kathleen lived a life of laughter, love, and faith- always trying to find strength and a smile in even the toughest of times. She was born October 18th, 1947 in Dallas to Richard “Dick” and Elise Conway, the second of three children. Kathleen, older sister Cookie and younger brother Bill were raised in Oak Cliff and Kathleen graduated from Bishop Dunne High School in 1965.
Her first marriage gave her beloved sons Brendan and Kevin Jefferies, but did not last. Along with the support of her mother Elise and grandmother Marie, she worked hard to raise the boys as a single mother and provide as much as she could for them. Most importantly, she taught them how to be good men with honor, and to love and treat others with respect and empathy.
A devout Catholic, she never expected to marry again, but that changed later in life when she reconnected with Robbin Capehart, who she knew from grade school. Her boys now grown, she could begin to live for herself with the man that became the love of her life.
Kathleen and Robbin celebrated the turn of the millennium by runnin’ down to the courthouse to get married on January 12th, 2000. They lived a simple life supporting each other and enjoying time hosting friends and family for holidays and events. Kathleen said in later days that she was so very happy with Robbin, but didn’t get enough time with him, as he passed in July of 2009.
Kathleen also reconnected with the “Bishop Dunne Girls” later in life, gathering with her high school friends for many fun times. She was always welcome at any gathering, especially on Halloween, as she was always in the spirit. She saw her first grandchild, Sebastian, born in 2014 and in her final weeks, saw her granddaughter Elora take her first steps.
Kathleen was a lifelong Democrat who believed in treating all people with love, kindness, and equality. She worked hard, spending most of her professional life doing accounting and administrative work in the healthcare and social work fields.
Her laugh could carry a room. She was loved. She will be missed.
Kathleen is survived by her son and his wife, Kevin and Kayla Jefferies and granddaughter Elora, Daughter-in-Law Kim Jefferies and grandson Sebastian; nieces Diane Mezayek, Laura Wilson, and Allison Moore and their families; nephew Austin Young and family; brother and wife, Bill and Nora Conway with niece Michelle and her family; and numerous other beloved friends and extended family.
Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents, Dick and Elise Conway, her sister Cookie Young, her beloved son Brendan Jefferies, and her loving husband, Michael Robbin Capehart.
Kathleen will be interred with Michael Robbin Capehart, a Vietnam War veteran who served with 1st Cavalry, at DFW National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy, Dallas, TX 75211 on October 23rd at 10am. A memorial gathering will immediately follow at nearby American Legion Post 424, 3940 S Ledbetter Dr, Dallas, TX 75236 until 2:30pm.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, please send a donation to the Doug Flutie Foundation for Autism - www.flutiefoundation.org.
