Judy Elizabeth Mcwilliams

January 2, 1949 — February 22, 2024

Wolfe City, TX

Judy Elizabeth McWilliams was called home on February 22, 2024.  A visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 27, 2024 at Commerce Funeral Home from 4:00-5:00 p.m.

She was born January 2, 1949 in Dallas, Texas the fifth child of George Washington Stembridge and Thelma Louise Watts Stembridge.  She spent her childhood years growing up in the Oak Cliff area, where was able to experience a unique account amidst the JFK assassination. She shared stories of hearing the sirens and watching the police cars from her front porch.  This was a vivid memory for her growing up.  We enjoyed listening to her tell the us her experience of such a historic event.

In 1966, Judy married and had her first daughter Wendy Renee Carter in 1967.  In her early years, Judy was a wonderful seamstress and worked many years as a buyer and manager at a clothing factory in Fate, Texas.

She enjoyed cooking and we are glad to have some of her “secret recipes” to carry on for generations.

Later she met her true love, Roger.  She loved to tell the story of how they agreed it was love at first sight and they were inseparable ever since. They married on August 11, 1975 in Rockwall, TX and shared the birth of their daughter Shannon Elizabeth in 1976.  She was a devoted mother and her daughters were truly her life.

That is until her grandchildren arrived….

She was so proud of her grandchildren…..Bradley, Travis, Megan and Alyssa.

Judy loved Genealogy and devoted countless hours to researching our family history.  She was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and Daughters of the Republic of Texas, and insisted her daughters carry on the legacy.

She is survived by her spouse, Roger Leo McWilliams, two daughters Wendy Renee Bowen and her husband, Steve Bowen and Shannon Elizabeth McWilliams; her grandchildren Bradley Bowen, Travis Bowen, Megan Gray and Alyssa Gray.  She is also, survived by her brother, Jerry Stembridge.

A private graveside ceremony will be held Thursday, February 29, 2024 at the Dallas-Forth Worth National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her name to your local animal shelter or SPCA- a cause very dear to Judy’s heart.
