John Richard "Dick" Jackson

September 14, 1922 — February 4, 2020

John Richard “Dick” Jackson, 97, of Linesville, PA, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, February 4, 2020 in Paris, Texas.  He was born in Ligonier, PA on September 14, 1922, the son of John Thomas Jackson and Florence Griffith Jackson.

John attended Ligonier High School, graduating in 1940.  Shortly after graduating high school, Dick enlisted in the United States Army.  During his service, he utilized his considerable carpentry skills building bridges.  After three years of service, Dick was honorably discharged in 1946.  Dick married the love of his life, Ruth Ankney, on June 5, 1946.  Dick worked for Westinghouse as a carpenter for over 40 years, after which he retired.  Following this, he truly enjoyed raising cattle and farming.  He also excelled at home restoration, working for many clients as well as improving his family’s home.  His daughter, Carol, moved him to Commerce in 2019 in order to better care for him when his health began declining.

Dick is survived by his daughters, Carol Alden and Ruth Jackson and his son, John Jackson, Jr. and wife, Kim; grandchildren, Jessie McCarty and husband, Jason, Travis Halterman and wife, Katlyn, Charity Sackmann and husband, Frank, Sara Williams and husband, Rob and Jason Farley and wife, Rose; as well as 7 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Ruth; his parents, John and Florence Jackson; his daughter, Judith Yalenty; his grandson, Nathan Crawford; his brothers, George Jackson, Howard Jackson, Edgar Jackson and his sister Dora Jackson.

The family would like to extend a heart felt thank-you to the staff and doctors at Country Home Estates and Oak Manor Nursing Home for their loving care of Dick during his time living in each facility. The work you do is a great blessing to the residents and their families.
