September 12, 1944 — November 10, 2020

Cumby

Jimmy Harold Lawwill, 76, of Cumby, passed away at his home on Tuesday, November 10, 2020.  He was born Hamilton, Ohio on September 12, 1944, the son of Harold Stanley Lawwill and Lucille Cunagin Lawwill.  The family will receive friends at a visitation to take place on Saturday, November 14, 2020 from 2:00-3:00 pm at Commerce Funeral Home.  Burial will immediately follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery, CR 4723 in Cumby.

Jimmy attended high school in Ohio. He met the love of his life, Doris June Hatfield, and they were married on March 6, 1965 in Jellico, Tennessee. Jimmy struggled with life before he met Doris.  Her influence on him was life changing.  He worked for Dayton Walther, which is a steel manufacturing company. In 1980, he was transferred to the Fayette Division in Commerce Texas. When that plant was closed, he moved to Wood Design, a woodworking company.  Because of his interest in woodworking, he really enjoyed his time there.  Jimmy was proud to be a member of the Hopkins Masonic Lodge 180.  After his retirement, he enjoyed hunting and woodworking.  His children fondly remember him making chests for them, among other things.  Many good memories were made camping together. They built things and painted. They took care of animals and tended the plants. They watched movies and talked about history.  The kids weren’t spoiled with material possessions, but with love. He was cherished, admired, respected, and loved.  But the true joy in his life came from his grandchildren, who called him Papaw. He enjoyed having all the kids together for the holidays. He was always there for any of them, ready to listen and give advice whenever one of them needed him.

Jimmy is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Doris; his children, Judy Williams and her husband, Greg, Mike Lawwill and his wife, Wendy, Cindy Trull and her husband, Larry, and Jason Lawwill and his wife, Jennifer; his grandchildren, Josh Ferguson, Jacob Ferguson, Blaine Lawwill, Tiffany McPherson, Travis Mauldin, Cody Lawwill, Jodie Phipps, Larry Trull, Jr., Kymberly Lawwill, Erica Lawwill and Taylor Steinmetz; great grandchildren, Hunter McPherson, Harley Phipps, Holden Phipps, Harper Phipps, Hadlee Phipps, Tristen McPherson, Emery McPherson, Elliana McPherson, Eadon  McPherson, Jayden Lawwill, Dakota Lawwill, Remington Lawwill and Lillian Haywood; a brother, John Lawwill and his wife, Paula.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Lucille Lawwill; a brother, Robert Lawwill and a sister, Sally Lawwill.
