Jerry Jack Roberts

March 13, 1942 — December 25, 2017

Jerry Jack Roberts, 75, of Campbell, passed away on Monday, December 25, 2017 in Plano, Texas.  Jack was born in Slayton, Texas on March 13, 1942, the son of James Osco Roberts and Dixie Gaither Foster Roberts.

After graduating from high school in 1960, Jack joined the United States Air Force, serving as a missile mechanic until he was honorably discharged on April 13, 1965.  He married Mary Nell Holt on February 2, 1963 in Andrews, Texas.  They were happily married for 54 years.  Jack obtained his BS in Industrial Arts, an MA in Education, as well as a Ph.D. from The University of North Texas in Denton, Texas.  While working towards his doctorate, he taught at UNT in the College of Industrial Engineering.  In 1982, he moved his family to Commerce, Texas, where he began his teaching career at East Texas State University.  While at ETSU, he authored two text books, which were published in 1994 and 1996, that he would use to teach his classes for several years.  After a 25 year teaching career at ETSU, which became Texas A&M-Commerce,  Jack retired in 2007.  For years, Jack promised his wife, Mary Nell, that he would build her a home on their property in Campbell.  He was quite an accomplished wood worker, having built an extensive wood shop next to where their home would eventually stand.   He handmade most of the wood trim and many other aspects of the beautiful home he would build to fulfill his promise to Mary Nell. While building the home, he employed many of his students, which gave him valuable help and gave the students valuable hands-on experience.  In 2000, Jack and Mary Nell finally realized their dream, moving into their beautiful new home.

Jack is survived by his sons, James Roberts and his wife, Linda, and John Roberts and his wife, Dana; and his grandchildren, Justin Roberts, Kathryn Roberts and Daniel Roberts.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Mary Nell, and his parents, James and Dixie Roberts.

Serving as bearers for Jack will be James Roberts, John Roberts, Justin Roberts, Daniel Roberts, Kathryn Roberts and Eddie Madison.

Serving as an honorary bearer will be Buddy Gregg.
