Janice Aimee Guerra King died peacefully at her home in Dallas on July 22, 2019. She is survived by her husband, Weldon Ben King, two sons, Clifford Breyel (Kathie) and Rodney Breyel (Misty), a daughter, Janine Breyel (Randy Minor) and a stepdaughter, Emily (Geoff) Brenner. She leaves behind eleven grandchildren: Daniel Simpson (Danielle), Mason Minor (Erika), Quintin Minor, Emerson Minor, Rebecca Breyel, Brittney Breyel, Kirsten Sheffield, Konnor Breyel, Andersen Breyel, Braden Brenner and Tate Brenner and four great-grandchildren.
Janice was born August 20, 1943 in New Orleans to Stanley and Grace Guerra. She is preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Ronald Guerra. Janice was one of seven children; her other siblings are Stanley, Fay, Brian, Brent and Wayne. She is also survived by a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Claire and Cooter Hale and numerous nieces and nephews.
Janice grew up in New Orleans and although she moved away from the city as a young woman, it was always close to her heart. She went back often to visit and shared her love for all the city had to offer -- Mardi Gras, the French Quarter, Lake Pontchartrain, the Mississippi River, the Saints, crawfish boils, and Poboys, to name a few – with her husband, children and others. Growing up surrounded by water, she passed on her love of boating and swimming to her children. She and her husband, Ben spent many happy days on Lake Grapevine and enjoyed taking family and friends out on their boat, Moonstone. She was never happier than on a boat, with wind blowing through her hair and sunshine lighting up her face.
Janice had a very successful career at Lomas & Nettleton, a financial corporation in Dallas where she was initially hired as a switchboard operator. By the time she left the company ten years later, she was an assistant vice president. Janice loved traveling and reading. She and Ben would have done much more of both if not for a diagnosis of cancer in 2001. Although she lived for many years after surviving the disease, the treatment left her physically and mentally disabled. She was well loved and will be dearly missed.
