Goldie Richard Davis, Jr., 80, of Sulphur Springs, passed away on Monday, February 25, 2019 after a lengthy illness. Goldie was born on September 23, 1938 in Whitesboro, Texas, the son of Goldie Richard Davis, Sr. and Josephine Laynette Kyle Davis.
Goldie attended Texas High School in Texarkana, Texas, graduating in 1957. While a student there, he excelled as an athlete; playing football and running track. When he was a junior in high school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. While serving, he worked as a linguist and in intelligence. After 23 years of faithful service, he was honorably discharged in 1978. In 1957, Goldie met the love of his life, Marilyn, on a blind date. They were married three months later on December 21.
Goldie’s first love was his family. He and Marilyn led their family on many adventures over the years. He enjoyed anything to do with the outdoors, including camping, hunting and fishing. His favorite times were spent on family vacations and long drives on a Sunday afternoon.
Goldie is survived by his children, Goldie Richard Davis, III and wife, Debra, Julie Walker and husband, Mike, Jeffrey Davis, Tina Mueller-Meeks and Ben Davis; 17 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren; his sister Anna Harris and a brother, Don Davis.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Davis and his parents, Goldie and Josephine Davis.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, March 8 at 2:00 p.m. at Shiloh Cemetery in Klondike, TX.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial be given to honor Goldie to the Wounded Warrior Project at www.woundedwarriorproject.org.
