George Speights

George Speights, 82, died peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family on July 15, 2017. He was born on April 11, 1935 in Union Valley, Texas to William Speights and Jessie Gallaway Speights.  The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Commerce, Texas.  A funeral service will follow at 1:30 p.m. at the church.   Burial will take place at Mt.  Zion Cemetery in Cumby, Texas.

George was raised in Union Valley, Texas.  He graduated from Quinlan High School in 1952.  Following high school he attended East Texas State University in Commerce. George honorably served his country in the United States Army beginning in 1958; being discharged in 1960.  He and Betty were married at First Baptist Church-Commerce on March 7, 1958.  They have been faithful members there for 35 years.

George enjoyed his family very much.  He was definitely a family man who loved his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  He also enjoyed tending his cattle and working with his hands.

George is survived by his wife of 59 years, Betty; children, Tami Sanchez, Eddie Speights and wife, Laurie, Cindy Dillard and husband, Brad and Kelly Broyles and wife, Gayle; grandchildren Jennifer Ware, Amber Hollenshead and husband, Samuel, Morgan Hinsley and husband, Ellis, Stetson Speights, Jessi Dillard, Colton Speights, Jordan Broyles, Taylor Broyles and Kaylee Dillard and four great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Jessie Speights; brothers Louis Speights, Weldon Speights and Bill Speights and sister Dorothy Delaney.

Serving as pallbearers for George will be Colton Speights, Stetson Speights, Samuel Hollenshead, Ellis Hinsley, Bruce Ary and Hunter Ary.

Jim Helfferich and Mike Finley will serve as honorary pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to either Mt. Zion Cemetery,  First Baptist Church-Commerce,  or a charity of your choice.
