On August 2, 2018, at the age of 94, Flora E. Little – loving daughter, wife, and matriarch to four generations-- passed from mortality to Life Eternal.
Flora was born March 12, 1924 to William Harlen Vaught and Leattie Jane Jasper Vaught of Vaught Ridge, Pulaski County, Kentucky. She was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers; by three husbands: Lawrence Parton of Pulaski County, Kentucky, Eldon C. Stringer of Commerce, Texas, and Arthur O. Little of Ludlow, Kentucky; one Stepson and two grandsons. Flora is survived by daughters Bernice and husband James Hawkins of Commerce; Doris and husband Andy Riley of Longview, and Karen and husband Kayne Chu of Ft.Worth; by 6 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren, as well as 8 step-children and their families.
Flora descended from resourceful, industrious, courageous pioneers who tamed the Kentucky wilderness and established a tightly-knit community, one bound by unwavering faith and generosity. These values were especially evident during the Great Depression, which was the context of Flora's young life.
It was evident from her endurance of hardship that Flora came from strong stock. Also evident was her selfless devotion to others, especially toward her large and complexly woven family and her enormous network of friends; she carried on the spirit of generosity she had seen modeled by her beloved father. Most evident, however, was Flora's faith: she trusted that her Lord was with her always, through all fear and pain and grief.
Flora was a gifted seamstress, who sewed for her family and for the public. As the wife of Rev. Little, she served as the hospitable hostess to many. In her later years as a Commerce resident, she was a member of the Lydia and Rebekah Sunday School Class at First Baptist Commerce, she attended meetings of the Crochet Club and was a favorite member of the Fit Steps exercise class.
Flora's full life will be celebrated Saturday, August 11, 2018 at First Baptist Church, 1401 Washington Street, Commerce, Texas, with visitation at 1:00 p.m., and funeral immediately following at 2:00 p.m.
