Eugene Douglas Wall, 95, of Commerce, died peacefully on Monday, July 23, 2018 in Greenville, Texas. He was born on May 15, 1923 in Commerce, Texas, to John Black Wall and Mattie Hamilton Wall. A graveside service will take place on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Rosemound Cemetery in Commerce with Reverend Michael Ryer officiating.
Born and raised in Commerce, Gene graduated from Commerce High School in 1942. During his twelve years as a student in Commerce public schools, Gene never missed one day! Immediately following high school, Gene enlisted in the Army Air Corps in Dallas, Texas. He served honorably for four years, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant, after which he was discharged in 1946. Following his service in the Army, he attended East Texas State Teacher’s College, earning his bachelor’s degree in Education in 1952. He began working for the United States Postal Service after college. He worked as a postman for several years, eventually becoming the Postmaster for Commerce. Gene married the love of his life, Eva Mae, in 1946 at First Baptist Church in Commerce, Texas. They were faithful members of First Baptist Church for many years.
Gene was a long-time member of Masonic Lodge 439 in Commerce, and a Shriner. He was quite accomplished at woodworking. One of his specialties was building furniture. Above all, though, Gene enjoyed spending time with his family.
Gene is survived by his sons, Terry Wall and Ronnie Wall and his wife, Christine; grandchildren, Andrew Wall and Brittany Wall and her fiance`, Garrett Zaro.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mattie Wall; his wife, Eva Mae; and his siblings, William Wall, Thomas Wall, Imogene Wall and Jimmy Clinton.
Serving as casket bearers for Gene will be Larry Stanford, David Credelli, Dick Baron and Richard Frank.
Services entrusted to Commerce Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
