Edward Dean Voskuhl

May 26, 1946 — February 8, 2023

Commerce

Edward Dean Voskuhl was born at home on his family’s farm in Mulhall, Oklahoma on May 26th, 1946.  A funeral service will take place on Monday, February 20, 2023 at 1:00 pm at Commerce Funeral Home.  The family will receive friends and family at a reception following the funeral.  Ed will be laid to rest, with military honors, on Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at DFW National Cemetery at 10:15 a.m.

Ed's parents moved to Weaubleau, Missouri in 1958 where they had a dairy farm.  Ed was a natural leader and life of the party in high school.  His greatest accomplishment in high school was accepting Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior during his junior year.  After graduation in 1964, he joined the United States Marie Corps. After boot camp, POW training, & jungle training he was assigned to the USS Ranger Aircraft carrier.  Ed spent two years in Vietnam and aboard the Ranger.  He guarded the nuclear weapons and was in charge of the Brig.  On a visit home on leave from Vietnam, he went to his high school’s basketball game where he noticed his neighbor, Reba Grush, had really grown up while he was away.  They immediately began dating while Ed continued his USMC service.  Upon completion of his tour he, went to work in Kansas City, Missouri.  Ed and Reba were married on December 5, 1970, in their hometown surrounded by their family and community. They settled into married life as Reba taught and Ed began College at SWBC.

In 1972, he surrendered to the call of ministry.  A small group started a community church on Lake Pomme de Terre in Galmey, Missouri.  Ed accepted the call to be their first pastor in 1973.  The church quickly grew from an old abandoned church building to multiple building projects.  Most of all, the Gospel was preached to the entire community and many souls were reached for Christ.  In 1978, Ed and Reba left Missouri and moved to Texas for Ed to attend seminary in Ft. Worth.  1979 brought more change as they were called to pastor a new mission church in Cedar Park, Texas. They served there for four years and Ed began going on international mission trips as well. During their time at Shenandoah Baptist Church, they had their daughter Brooke Rachel who instantly became the apple of her daddy’s eye. As a family of three, Ed went into full time Evangelism ministry and for over 20 years spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ all across the United States and to more than 8 countries.  He could capture your attention with his wit and dynamic preaching style but every message ended at the cross with a call to repentance and salvation.

All throughout his ministry years and after he worked in the trucking industry driving all across America, his “light up the room” personality made it easy for him to build relationships where he would always bring it to Jesus!  After retirement, he and Reba relocated to Commerce, Texas to live near their daughter, son-in-law, and 6 grandchildren.  His grandchildren absolutely adored him and lovingly named him BaPop.

Edward always had a special way of making everyone feel comfortable and encouraged.  His firm but loving nature always encouraged people to feel that they could reach their full potential for Christ.  He spoke the hard truth but with the love of a father.  He called people out not to condemn but to be transformed by the Blood of Jesus Christ.

He is preceded in death by his parents S.H. (Bill) and Lucille Voskuhl.  He is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years Reba (Grush) Voskuhl, his daughter and son in law, Jesse and Brooke Schrowang, and his six grandchildren, Izabelle, Malachi, Micah, Amelia, Emmaline, and Matthias Schrowang.  He is also survived by all his siblings and their spouses; George and Sandra Voskuhl, Phylis and Glen Silvers, William and Mary Voskuhl, as well as his sister in law Sherry Owens.

Edward Voskuhl was a strong man of God. When his former paster heard of his passing he said “Ed is a great man. Not was, IS. He is more alive today than ever before.” Ed was fully healed and became fully alive when he was drawn from this earthly life into Heaven’s Glory on Febuary 8th, 2023, surrounded by his family. Those who knew him will miss his presence daily, but we are eagerly awaiting our heavenly reunion.

“For none of us lives to himself, and no one dies to himself. For if we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. Therefore, whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s. For to this end Christ died and rose and lived again, that He might be Lord of both the dead and the living.”     Romans 14:7-9 NKJV

Serving as honorary pallbearers are George Voskuhl, Bill Voskuhl, Eric Voskuhl, Gary Sutton, Eric Shirey, Kelly McNeese, David Garcia, Kolin Charboneau, and Malachi Schrowang.
