Doyce B. Dees, III was born on September 5, 1961, in San Rafael, California, to Rosemary Carroll and Dr. Doyce B Dees, Jr. There will be a gathering of family and friends on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Commerce Funeral Home.

Thanks to his dad’s military career, Doyce lived and traveled the world with his father, mother, and sisters.  After his dad retired from the Air Force, the family moved to Ft. Worth, Texas, where Doyce graduated from Western Hills High School.  He moved to Commerce, Texas, where he earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from East Texas State University, now known as Texas A&M University-Commerce.  Doyce was a devoted professor and staff member of the university for almost 29 years.  On July 28, 1991, he married his soulmate, Erin Lynn Courtney, and together they raised two children, James and Laurel Dees.  Doyce was called “Honey” by his loving granddaughter, Alexa Dees.  Doyce was also known for his love of music and motorcycles and staying in touch with his Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity brothers.

Doyce is survived by his wife, Erin Dees; his children, James Dees (Maeghan) and Laurel Dees, his granddaughter, Alexa Jade Dees, his step-mother, Sandra Dees, sisters, Beth Dees Applebaum (Wayne) and Dr. Lori Dees; his nephews, Rory Barrett (Erika) and Aaron Applebaum, aunt, Judith Dees Lieberman (Joseph); cousins, Lynne Dees (Bill Crawford), Eddie Dees, Jr., Layle Dees, Neil Dees (Leticia), Sue Dees (Paula Lowe), Lila Lieberman, Lucy Lieberman (Brian Weber), Jay Lieberman (Jess), Karl Lieberman (Amy), Jason Rader, Rosalyn Rommel Couch (James), Leslie Carroll, and Allan Carroll.

He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Doyce B Dees, Jr., and Rosemary (Carroll) Dees.
