David James Weakley

David James Weakley, 63, went to be with his Lord and Savior in early September 2021, in Greenville, Texas. He was born on January 7, 1958, in Pekin, Illinois, the son of Richard and Mildred Weakley. David’s Celebration of Life and Memorial will be September 25, 2021 from 11:30-2:30 at Crossroads Church Family Life Center in Greenville, Texas.

David grew up in Pekin, IL, and Streator, IL, graduating from Streator Township High School in May 1976. Soon after graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. Midway through his enlistment, he transferred to the United States Navy as the MOS changed. He served active duty and was honorably discharged. After his military service, in the early 1980s, David attended Rock Valley College in Rockford, IL. He earned his associates degree, as well as his airframe and powerplant mechanic’s license, which he immediately put to use. He followed in his father’s footsteps and began a career with Powerton Station with Commonwealth Edison, where he remained for nearly twenty years. In late 2001, David relocated to Texas. In February 2002, he married the love of his life, Melissa Reeh. Their son, Jamison David Weakley, was born in September 2006. David spent his final sixteen years living in Hunt County, Texas. During that time, he was employed by L3 Communications and Integrated Systems for thirteen years. He retired in January 2020.

David’s life was focused on his faith, family, and community. Everything he was involved in reflected this fact.  David was a strong Christian and did not hesitate to use any opportunity to point out God’s love for us. We are rejoicing, knowing that he is in his heavenly home. David was a devoted, loyal, and affectionate husband and father.

David was a founding officer and member of Texas Liberty Defenders, which is a Christian political organization that aligns with the republican party. This organization fully supports and defends our constitution, and fights for all our personal, economic, and medical freedoms. He was quite active in engaging with those elected to represent him. This included hosting, speaking at, and attending rallies and political events, making trips to visit the state capitol to testify at hearings on bills, as well as visiting legislator’s offices to engage them in difficult discussions.

David was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed spending time with his wife, Missy, and their son, Jamison. They enjoyed the shooting range, hunting, camping, fishing, boating, and bicycling. David’s hobbies ranged from classic movies to military and world history. He was also quite a skilled gunsmith.

David is survived by his wife, Melissa; his sons, Jamison Weakley, Elijah Weakley, and Joel Weakley; his siblings, Jonathan Weakley and wife, Susan, Judith Loy, Sandra Weghorst and husband, Joe, Barbara Gray and husband, Ron, along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Richard James Weakley, his mother, Mildred L. Hansen Weakley, and his brother-in-law, Richard Loy.

Honorary pallbearers are Joshua Reeh, Michael Taylor, Carol Miller, Melissa Fortmann, Joel Weakley, Jamison Weakley, Shelby Spears and Ross McClain.
