David Earl Hindman

d. August 11, 2021

Commerce

David Earl Hindman, 86, of Commerce, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family, on Wednesday, August 11, 2021. He was born on August 7, 1935, in Plainview, Texas, the son of William Earl Hindman and Ethel Elizabeth Berry Hindman.  A memorial service is planned for Saturday, August 21, 2021 at 11:00 am at Commerce Funeral Home.  A reception at the funeral home will immediately follow.

David attended high school in Duncanville, Texas, graduating with the class of 1953. Shortly after high school, David entered the United States Navy. While serving, he studied Aviation Electronics. Following four years of service, he was honorably discharged. He then began a career in sales, which lasted over 40 years. The bulk of his career was spent with General Electric. He met a girl named Mary Jo Lively, whom he dated for a short time before asking for her hand in marriage. They were married in Dallas, Texas on January 25, 1962, enjoying 59 years of happiness together.

David enjoyed gardening a great deal. His main focus was on growing all sorts of vegetables. He was active in his support of Future Farmers of America, assisting students any way he could.  He genuinely enjoyed serving during the Bois d Arc Bash car show, preparing BBQ every year. He also enjoyed the challenge of a good crossword puzzle. Sadly, when his vision began failing, this made it difficult for him to enjoy puzzles. Any time spent socializing with his family and friends were favorite times.

David is survived by his loving wife, Mary; his son, Bruce and wife, Muriel, son David and wife, Barbara, a daughter-in-law, Sharon Hindman, nine grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Ethel Hindman, sisters, Margie, Peggy and Pat, and his sons, Guy, and Kenneth.
