Dana Regina Yates, 44, passed away at her home on Saturday, August 8, 2020. She was born on August 2, 1976 in Houston, Texas to her parents, James Ernest Lane and Donna Renee Brunson Lane. The family will receive friends at a visitation to take place Thursday, August 13, 2020 at Commerce Funeral Home from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. Social distancing will be observed and masks are required.
Dana attended high school in Lancaster, Texas, graduating in 1994. She married the love of her life, William Yates on March 4, 1995 in Lancaster. Dana attended Dallas College, Cedar Valley Campus in Lancaster, earning her Associates degree. She then attended Texas A&M-Commerce, earning her Bachelor’s degree in education. She and William both taught in Greenville ISD at LP Waters Early Childhood Learning Center. Teaching was Dana’s passion. She was known for going above and beyond to meet the needs of her students. She was affectionately known as “Mamma D” by many past students. When Dana wasn’t working, she was an avid reader. She enjoyed mystery novels and was always reading something to improve her skills as an educator. She was a leader in her daughter, Kristen’s, Girl Scout troop, taking part in many different roles.
Dana is survived by her husband of 25 years, William Yates and her daughter, Kristen Yates; her father, James Ernest Lane; her sister, Renee Russell.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Donna Lane.
Serving as Honorary Pallbearers for Dana are the administration and staff at L P Waters Early Childhood Learning Center.
