Brendan Michael Jefferies

April 9, 1971 — March 18, 2022

Commerce

Brendan Michael Jefferies, of Commerce, passed away suddenly, but peacefully, at home, Friday, March 18, 2022.  A visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 23, 2022 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Commerce Funeral Home.  A private funeral service is planned for Thursday, March 24, 2022.

Born in Dallas, Texas April 9, 1971, Brendan spent his early childhood in Grand Prairie, until his parents separated in 1975, when he was four. He, his brother, and his mother then moved to Tyler, Texas where he attended St. Gregory Cathedral School. His family then moved to Quinlan, Texas in 1978 where he graduated Valedictorian of Quinlan Ford High School in 1989. He completed his collegiate studies at Texas A&M University-Commerce in 1995.

Brendan nurtured a lifelong thirst for knowledge and was happy to share!  A confirmed Catholic with a good, loving mother, Brendan possessed a strong moral compass that turned a childhood love of superheroes and fantasy into a lifelong passion for stories of Good vs Evil: Batman vs The Joker, Luke Skywalker vs Darth Vader, Clerics vs Devils. Brendan enjoyed imaginative themes of strength and character. Ultimately, he envisioned himself not unlike a Hobbit…seeking a simple life in “The Shire” (aka Commerce), filled with a loving family, the best of friends, good times and delicious food. Brendan considered himself an expert at the grill and Margarita Master. All agreed! He loved America, had a passion for politics and was a lifelong fan of “America’s Team”, the Dallas Cowboys. Brendan’s devotion to the things he loved would often lead to loud, lengthy and intense debates with his brother. He was generous to strangers and believed in the lessons of love taught by Jesus Christ. Although he struggled at times with his health, he always managed to bring his family and friends abundant joy, smiles, and full-body laughter.

Brendan’s generous heart along with a winning smile and infectious laugh created strong, loving bonds throughout his life. Brendan formed lifelong friendships as a BRAT, comforted travelers as a beloved innkeeper, and is remembered for his magical work as store manager at Mary of Puddin’ Hill.

Brendan’s journey led him to the love of his life, his soulmate, Kim Flanagan. They married on June 10, 2006 in Commerce, Texas, where they established their home. Their family was complete with the arrival of their amazing son, Sebastian, on July 14, 2014. Brendan then fully devoted his life to being a full-time father for his one and only son.

Brendan is survived by his wife Kim, and son, Sebastian, of Commerce; mother Kathleen Capehart of Commerce; brother Kevin Jefferies and wife, Kayla, of Greenville; beloved cousins Diane Mezayek and husband, Sam, of Tyler; Austin Young and wife Dana, of Rusk, Laura Wilson and husband, Robert, of Tyler; and Allison Moore and husband, Mark, of Tyler; and many friends as close as any family.

Brendan was preceded in death by stepfather, Robbin Capehart; beloved Aunt “Cookie” Young; and dear friend Richard Fulkerson.

To honor Brendan’s caring and generous spirit, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, please send a donation to the Doug Flutie Foundation for Autism - www.flutiefoundation.org.
