Alfred M. Zarate, 70, of Kaufman, Texas, passed away after a brief illness on Monday, April 19, 2021. He was born on August 26, 1950 in Melvin, Texas, the son of Santos Zarate and Isidra Maldonado Zarate.
Al attended high school in Cisco, Texas, graduating in 1968. He married his wife of 34 years, Rose Laverne, on July 4, 1977. Together, he and Laverne operated “Laverne’s Auto Parts for over 30 years. Al then worked for Wal Mart in the Quick Lube. He was well loved by the people he worked with.
In his off time, Al enjoyed a variety of activities, including reading, sports, collecting and music. He had quite an extensive coin collection that he enjoyed adding to. He was a member of the Hidden Door Club in Terrell, where he spent time with friends and enjoying shuffleboard. He also enjoyed throwing dice and playing cards. Something unique about Al was the skill he possessed in answering Jeopardy trivia. He was able to answer most any question! Finally, Al will be remembered as a real people person. He was loved by many and will be missed.
Al is survived by his son, Paul Zarate; his grandson, Kyler Zarate; his mother, Isidra Zarate; sister, Rosemary Zarate Box and sister, Janet Zarate.
He was preceded in death by his father, Santos Zarate and his brothers, Jessie C. Zarate, Santos Zarate, Jr., and Milton D. Zarate.
